This guide provides an overview of library resources that can help with career exploration and job seeking. Use the tabs at the top to learn about each topic, and please reach out to us if you have questions or would like additional information.

Teen Job Search

If you are a Teen or Young Adult searching for jobs, the following resources from CLP’s Job and Career database list may be helpful for you:

Job Boards

Here are some online job boards filtered to search for teen jobs that can also get you started with your job search:   

Searching your age for jobs on Indeed, Glassdoor or Google will also yield some results. Remember to read each job posting carefully to make sure that you fulfill all the requirements.   

Learn & Earn

Young people ages 14-21 can apply online at www.jobs4summer.org for Learn & Earn, the county-wide summer youth employment program. The application can be completed from a smartphone, tablet or computer when the application is open.

You can get in-person assistance filling out your application at any CLP location or any of the other Learn & Earn Application Support Centers. The Learn & Earn team is also available to support you by phone or email as you complete your application from home. Contact them at summer@partner4work.org or call 412-932-2950. Exploring Careers

Thinking about becoming a veterinarian, an esthetician, an electrician, or an astronaut?  Or maybe you’re trying to figure out career options that may be a good fit for you.  Check out Career Cruising.  Find information on Your Learning Style, match your skills to possible careers, or even build your resume.  All you need is a library card to get started. 

If you're interested in exploring jobs in Pennsylvania, check out PA Job Resources. This site includes state workforce statistics, job-matching through CareerLink, a resume builder and more. (These are also great resources for school assignments on careers.) 

Interested in trying something new or exploring the “how to” of a possible career? Learn a new skill with LinkedIn Learning For Library or Udemy. Learn the basics of audio recording, web development or graphic design. Explore new photography or video production techniques, and much more. 

School and Aid

You can search for scholarships, explore majors and careers and find tools to help you ace exams in the Job & Career Education Center. Our collection of reference and circulating materials includes scholarship books and study guides for a plethora of exams, including the GRE, LSAT and CLEP, among many others. Additionally, you can access the Testing and Education Reference Center with your library card, giving you access to even more study guides and practice tests which you can access from your home computer. 

Financial Aid Resources: 

Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency- PHEAA: The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency offers a wide range of services, from general financial aid advice, to FAFSA and loan application assistance, to directly awarding grant money to qualifying PA residents. 

Pittsburgh Promise: If you’ve attended Pittsburgh Public Schools from 9th to 12th grades, have a 2.5 GPA and 90% attendance record, you may be eligible for a scholarship of up to $5,000 towards tuition and expenses at a Pennsylvania college or university.
